Why is Ascelcre born?

According to the 2013 ANFAAC study, in Spain there are an estimated 16.1 million pets, in almost 50% of Spanish households. 5,400,000 dogs, 3,800,000 cats and 5,320,000 birds, not counting fish or other species.

Let's look at this other study, carried out for MAGRAMA (Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment) with data from 2015, on the origin of the companion animals of Spanish homes.

The highest percentage of dogs (with 81.6%) did not buy it, but acquired it in other ways (gift, adoption, found on the street, or the child of a previous dog). Of the remaining that they did buy their dog, only 10% acquired it through a breeder, compared to 13% who bought it in an animal shop, and 8% who bought it from a private individual.

Let's put these data in figures. That means that of the 5 million dogs in Spain. only 500,000 are bought from a breeder (legal or not, the study does not distinguish between those who have a zoo and those who do not). And in cats? The same study adds that only 2.9% entrusted the purchase to a breeder.

The figures in Spain on the acquisition of pets are very different from our European colleagues. It could be that the lesgilations of France or Belgium were tougher in terms of breeding, with pendent models for professionals and fans of the breeds.

Let's talk now about care centers. Let's look at one of the most important portals about animals that operate right now in Spain, Mundoanimalia, since there is no centralized registry at the state level of the centers that operate. We found 715 canine trainers as of 07/24/2017 in their records. But when looking for one with authorized and exposed zoological core, we find only 6.

Now we go with the hotels or dog and cat residences, in the same portal, on the same date. 357 registered centers, 12 with registered zoological center and in sight.

Just as it is unthinkable to find a veterinarian without their corresponding qualifications and licenses, as it should be with the rest of the professionals in the animal sector.

At ASCELCCRE we believe that these data reflect a problem, and we create a working group that can help promote new social changes with solutions according to our time. We believe in the line of responsible work with animals and people, which is carried out transparently and under the current legislation in Spain and Europe.

All zoological breeding centers are obliged to keep track of the specimens that are crossed, the offspring that are born, the medical procedures that are applied, the vaccinations and deworming to be applied.

Everything that happens in a legal breeding center is supervised by the authorities, they must be available for these, and with inspections of several organisms, such as the Seprona, the Civil Guard, inspectors of the body of veterinarians of Diputación or Delegation of Government, Inspection of work, treasury, etc. All must pass controls to ensure animal welfare, and current legislation.

ASCELCRE Guarantee Seal

Only the partners of ASCELCCRE have the right to hold the seal of guarantee of Breeder or Legal and Responsible Caregiver. Look for it in the page of your breeder, canine residence, and / or trainer, or you can look in our directories.

It does not matter the size, some for small, others for giants; when you take these "little ones" home, you will be responsible for their life, and also for their health: periodic check-ups, a good diet, their vaccinations and deworming, their daily walks, their grooming and their training; that will make them healthier and give you more time for joy.
